Carrisbrooke Castle
An excellent castle where Charles 1 was imprisoned prior to his trial, many things to do here inside and outside the Castle especially on a fine day. English Heritage. Cafe', gift shop.
Charles I was imprisoned at the castle in the months prior to his trial. Watch the famous Carisbrooke donkeys work the 16th-century tread in daily demonstrations, raising the bucket from the castle well. The room where King Charles I was held prisoner, from which he tried and failed to daringly escape and climb the Norman keep for unmatched panoramic views of the island. Taken a few years ago now this will be quite impressive now. Ample parking available. The keep and the steep steps up to it can just be seen in the distance. Castle wall view.
