Favourite images

This is a handful of my favourite images not seen in other sections of my website, mostly digital but some of the older ones will be from film.

Alum Bay

A recent cliff fall can be seen in the picture, taken from the edge of the large car park at The Needles Landmark Attraction.

Hotel boat

Situated on the stretch of moored house boats, this is a small hotel boat in bembridge. There are some interesting permanently moored boats here including a seafood restaurant. The boat hotel is no more and the pirates can be seen in a front garden of a house in Bembridge!

A Pleasant cottage in Mottistone

What a nice cottage front garden this is.

Enjoying the view

Outside The Crab and Lobster pub in Bembridge this candid picture was taken some years ago. The view is now blocked by fencing, I think everyone was having a quiet moment with a fresh cold beer!

Large Cricket

Taken a few years ago now this very noisy cricket was the biggest I have ever seen, two inches in length not including the antennae - this could have been a Great Green Bush Cricket.

The Fairy Tree

Located at St. Helens Duver an old dead and bleached tree has become the fairy tree as some call it. More dedications to loved ones appear year by year as well as a fairy door in its base which was one of the first things to appear on it.

A famous personality

Taken in October 2023 on our way to walking The Island's coastal path anti-clockwise a famous personality was on the ferry with us - can you spot him? This created over 700 emojis on my Facebook post only to an IOW one at the time, and some quite funny comments or guesses. The personality was talking at the corner of our car in the queue for the ferry as well.

Old Pier at Fort Victoria

Old Pier remains taken several years ago now, it looks about the same many years later.

Parkhurst Forest

A spooky place inside the forest that is, several walks around here, dont go off the obvious paths into the forest or you may get lost. Red Squirrels can be seen here and there is a dedicated hide. Parkhurst is the name of the prison nearby.

Red Squirrels

Red Squirrels can be seen on The Island if you are lucky or patient. They are smaller than the greys, and best time to see them is in the early or mid morning in summer time anyway. Rylstone Gardens Cafe is the feeding station pictured.

For a bit of fun this year

Scott our skeleton joined us on holiday this year and on a fabulous day he had to visit the beach. the beach attendant and his mother had never seen anything like this in their time as beach attendants. One sunbather wanted a selfie with him, the ferry terminal kiosk attendant also commented.

Scratchell's Bay

View from The Needles New Battery view point, showing Scratchell's Bay below which is only accessible by boat and can only be viewed from this high angle. The Needles Old Battery Cafe' building can just be seen.

A busy painter in Seaview

On a nice summer afternoon in Seaview this painter I managed to take a picture of what she was painting.

Sunflower

Amongst many hundred more sunflowers at The Garlic Farm several years ago.

Ventnor Park Bandstand

Ventnor Park is a pretty small compared to some but is very nice with a Victorian Bandstand and cafe' with pitch and putt, as well as a stream meandering through. There is a path at the top edge that takes you to behind The Spyglass at Ventnor Esplanade.
