The Blacksmiths
Medium sized multi roomed pub with a traditional feel to it. Set in splendid countryside with fantastic views and fresh air, surrounded by fields this now has two small to medium sized car parks, outdoor seating area and patio as well as a lower childrens play area and adventure playground. Surrounding area is quiet here. Situated on the B3401 Calbourne to Carrisbrooke road. Highly recommended.
Formerly The Blacksmiths Arms, this pub used to be ran by a German Landlord Edgar Neighorn and he was quite a character and used to engage with my kids who were young at the time, fetching a v. large metal spider down from a high shelf to frighten them in a friendly way { I was so impressed by this I made one years later}. He used to organise trips to German beer festivals, have his own mini ones at the pub (I think) and had some german acompanyments to some of the food served, and of course served some German draught beer. His German eclectic ways were amusing, a 'fresh' smell came about one summer evening in the rear garden with fantastic views he said loudly "Aah ze smell of ze countryside yah". Edgar sadly passed away in 2020 aged 63 yrs old. Fond memories…..
