The Crab Inn

Famous for being on many fudge box fronts or postcards and is still thatched and very old. Nice to have a pint outside in the summer evenings. No gardens although there are tables and seating at the front and some more around the side of the pub on a patio. No car park.

Just to the right of the entrance in the picture on the wall corner is an old water font see below. Water font in Shanklin In the summer of 1868, the well-known American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow stayed in the town and wrote the poem. The inscription is not looking this good recently, and the tap had been turned off although there is a campaign to get this corrected.
